More from C2E2: an overview with a nice story about Amanda

Zechs of THE OUTHOUSE weighs in with a candid assessment of last weekend's C2E2 expo that includes an anecdote that illustrates Amanda Conner's basic character. Head here to peep it. By the way, Zechs, I like the way you write!

Amanda Conner talks 'Before Watchmen: Silk Spectre' with Comic Vine

As captured on video at last weekend's C2E2 expo, Amanda Conner chats about working on BEFORE WATCHMEN: SILK SPECTRE at COMIC VINE and is just her usual charming and down-to-earth self, so check it out!

More from C2E2: an account of the 'Chicks Dig Comics' panel

Our Amanda Conner's involvement with Mad Norwegian Press' CHICKS DIG COMICS essay/interview anthology has been previously discussed on this blog, and that's all you need to know in order to grok her participation in C2E2's CHICKS DIG COMICS panel, a forum in which several comics creators who are fortunate enough not to be burdened with testosterone expounded on — as you probably gathered from the title — their love of comics. A.C. is quoted (it's a charming story), so hit the article posted at WIRED's GEEK DAD column.

More from the floor of C2E2

The firsthand accounts from C2E2 keep popping up and there's a particularly fun one to be had over at BLEEDING COOL. While covering the many aspects of the show, writer Paul G. describes an encounter with Paperfilms' Jimmy Palmiotti and Paul Mounts, and notes an amusing exchange between himself and Jimmy in regard to a certain storyline from the now cult-classic run on POWER GIRL that he co-scripted with Justin Gray (and featuring art by Amanda Conner). That bit is found under the header "Love Is A Many Splendored Thing," so head here to read it for yourself.

A fun C2E2 blogger's photo safari

It may not be the same as actually finding oneself in attendance, but it's always fun to peep folks' online photo safaris from the conventions and shows they visit. A good case in point on this is the latest entry on cartoonist Mark Anderson's ANDERTOONS blog, where he visually chronicles the sights at this past weekend's C2E2 show in Chicago and cites our Amanda Conner as "the person I most wanted to meet." Along with a great shot of the lovely and talented A.C. (and the clearly-marked end of her signing line, as seen at left), Mark also takes us on a tour of the expo's floor and perfectly conveys the magic that keeps us returning to conventions year after year. Click here to absorb the eye-candy!

C2E2: A detailed rundown of the DC Collectibles panel

A lot happened at today's DC Collectibles — formerly DC Direct — panel, some of it involving Jimmy Palmiotti and Amanda Conner, and a full recounting can be read right here, courtesy of THE OUTHOUSE. (I would have pulled quotes for use on this blog, but the account is fun enough to be read and enjoyed in total at its source page.)

Comics fan faves and Paperfilms founders Amanda Conner and Jimmy Palmiotti are appearing at this weekend's C2E2 show, aka the Chicago Comic & Entertainment Expo. There will be a lot going on, what with the promotional push for BEFORE WATCHMEN — for which Amanda is drawing and co-writing the SILK SPECTRE mini-series (with Darwyn Cooke as co-scribe) — and Jimmy being a part of the Video Game Characters Reborn! panel, hosted by ShiftyLook on Saturday. (There's talk that Jimmy will be making some sort of announcement at that panel, so make sure to attend for the scoop!)

Comic Vine asks the burning question: "Why are so many villains doctors?"

One of the joys of being a comics fan/geek is the clinical examination of all manner of minutia involving imaginary spandex-clad heroes and antagonists, questions that to us are legitimate queries that help us further and more deeply understand the four-color mythoepoetic dreamscape, while the general public looks at us and our pondering of such matters like we've just spontaneously grown an extra head. Undaunted by the sneering disdain of the "norms," we continue to ask these questions, and COMIC VINE approached a number of comic biz notables — including our ever-loquacious Jimmy Palmiotti — at the Long Beach Comic Con back in October for answers to the question of exactly why so many villains in comics are doctors.

Jimmy Palmiotti: acclaimed and prolific scripter, inker and comics pundit.

The answers run the gamut from semi-academic to amusing and back again, so head here to see and hear what the guys have to say on this vital issue of the day.

Video: Amanda Conner chats about 'Before Watchmen' (and other stuff)

Our Amanda Conner was captured on video by the folks at METAL MACHINE.NET during a signing at the recent Megacon in Florida, and for several minutes she expounds on her career, living vicariously at cons via the cosplayers, the upcoming creator-owned CAPTAIN BROOKLYN, her thoughts on the original WATCHMEN, and her participation on the BEFORE WATCHMEN project (with Darwyn Cooke). A.C.'s focus and drive are quite clearly communicated and her winsome personality is on full display, so head here to experience the gal's immeasurable charm and general awesomeness.

More Fun at the 2011 NY Comic Con

The following gallery of shots is from days 2-4 of last weekend's enormous NY Comic Con at Manhattan's Jacob Javits Center, and they show Jimmy and Amanda in the midst of meeting and greeting with the fans while absorbing the adulation of their public. Also, you get to see several instances of Amanda's celebrated drawing skills as demonstrated live, so check these out:

No lazy doodlin' there!

In progress: an A.C. Power Girl sketch.

An historical note: this is Greg Wright the editor who gave Amanda her fist job at Marvel back in the days. You have him to thank for introducing our girl to the majors.

A.C. sketches Kitty Pryde and Lockheed.

A fan cosplays the A.C. version of Terra.

A.C. draws Donna Troy.

Amanda Conner sketches Alice and the Cheshire Cat.

Catwoman in progress.

A.C. sketches Psylocke.

Ya gotta love the '60's design aesthetic on the logo and its placement.

From start to finish: Amanda draws Power Girl for a longtime fan.

Voila! The finished piece.

Another ultra-pleased fan with his newly-minted piece of original art.

And the moment the Power Girl piece was done, it was time for a media interview. Ah, popularity...

With closing time on the show's final day fast approaching, A.C. sketches the Black Canary for a fan.

Note the white highlights around the Canary's gloves so the viewer can clearly see the black gloves as separate from the equally black suit.

The finished piece.

The finished piece and the happy fan: the perfect coda to an epic convention appearance.
