As previously noted, the rights to the DC Comics series THE MONOLITH have reverted to its creators — among whom can be counted Paperfilms' Jimmy Palmiotti and Justin Gray — and the latest on that can be read over at NEWSARAMA. The bottom line is that if you missed it during the series' 2004-2005 twelve-issue run, now's your chance to check it out. (I'm embarrassed to admit that I missed it at the time but due to my lifelong fascination with the myths and legends of world cultures and religions, I'm intrigued to see how a modern tale based on the Golem, the most famous example of which would be the Golem of Prague, works. That said, I'm also curious to know how a Golem works without the required אמת on its forehead to animate it...Or maybe it's one of those Golem that's activated by parchments placed in its mouth? Whatever the case, I'll have my answers soon enough, gawdammit!)

'The Art of Amanda Conner'— release date correction

UPDATE: The previously announced release date of IDW's THE ART OF AMANDA CONNER book turns out to have been a mis-quote. It will not be out tomorrow, April 18th, but will apparently be released in stores on April 25th. We apologize for any inconvenience or annoyance that error may have caused, so please refrain from pelting us with rocks, feces — human or otherwise — and/or rotting garbage. Nonetheless, you can still pre-order it here and trust me when I tell you it's worth all the waiting!

This just in: Namco Bandai is reviving the classic 1980's brawler arcade game ROLLING THUNDER as the re-imagined web comic RAPID THUNDER, with Jimmy Palmiotti at the writing helm. Described as “crazier version of James Bond,” the full lowdown on the project can be read in detail at SHOGUN GAMER.

The firsthand accounts from C2E2 keep popping up and there's a particularly fun one to be had over at BLEEDING COOL. While covering the many aspects of the show, writer Paul G. describes an encounter with Paperfilms' Jimmy Palmiotti and Paul Mounts, and notes an amusing exchange between himself and Jimmy in regard to a certain storyline from the now cult-classic run on POWER GIRL that he co-scripted with Justin Gray (and featuring art by Amanda Conner). A fun C2E2 blogger's photo safari

It may not be the same as actually finding oneself in attendance, but it's always fun to peep folks' online photo safaris from the conventions and shows they visit. A good case in point on this is the latest entry on cartoonist Mark Anderson's ANDERTOONS blog, where he visually chronicles the sights at this past weekend's C2E2 show in Chicago and cites our Amanda Conner as "the person I most wanted to meet." Along with a great shot of the lovely and talented A.C. (and the clearly-marked end of her signing line, as seen at left), Mark also takes us on a tour of the expo's floor and perfectly conveys the magic that keeps us returning to conventions year after year. 'Before Watchmen' art montage at New Frontiersman site

In the wake of the DC Comics BEFORE WATCHMEN panel at this past weekend's C2E2 show, the digital comics news forums have begun latching onto the first released bit of interior art released from the project. Cannily fueling the fans' appetites by providing a mere crumb of visual information, DC has assembled a montage piece featuring representative artwork from all of the minis involved in the series and I have to admit that it all looks rather good. Of direct interest to this blog's readers is of course the participation of our Amanda Conner as the artist and co-writer (with the renowned Darwyn Cooke) on SILK SPECTRE. A.C.'s rendering of an adolescent Laurie Juspeczyk, the future second generation Silk Spectre, wistfully lamenting her lack of "assets" in the mirror as she models what appear to be her mother's crime-fighting togs, can be seen in the lower righthand corner. Unfortunately, what you see here is about as large of an image as you're going to get for now, so further patience is required. (I took this document, cropped it to isolate Amanda's art and hoped it would open up to a somewhat larger scale, but no dice.)

To see the montage piece in context with further snippets of the pre-release hype, I steer you toward DC's NEW FRONTIERSMAN website, which looks like a site that bears keeping an eye on if you're intrigued by what's to come. (One word of advice: When checking out the site, which resembles and old newspaper's front page, look for any words and/or phrases that appear to be highlighted, and be sure to click on them to access the hidden goodies.)

Apparently, folks just can't get enough of Amanda Conner's particular flavor of comics art. Not only is IDW issuing THE ART OF AMANDA CONNER in hardcover this coming Wednesday, DC Comics is also sating the public's appetite with the 304-page THE DC COMICS ART OF AMANDA CONNER, due out in hardcover this September. This is the big one, kiddies. C2E2's DC All Access BEFORE WATCHMEN panel proved to be an avalanche of info and discussion of what's to come from that long-anticipated project, and as you gathered from Amanda's quote in the headline, it looks to be a dark ride. Digital 'Ame-Comi Girls' reunites Conner, Palmiotti and Gray

If there's one thing I know with the same certainty of the fact that the sky exists, it's that Amanda Conner can draw the hell out of Wonder Woman. Thus, her involvement as the artist on the WW segment of DC's upcoming digital series AME-COMI GIRLS comes as a no-brainer. Aiding and abetting the project are co-scribes Jimmy Palmiotti and Justin Gray, who, with A.C. as the pencil jock, formed the team that made POWER GIRL a celebrated cult hit, so this project can be seen as a reunion of a successful creative confluence that turns them loose once more to do what they do best: craft a fun, beautifully illustrated comic featuring one of comics' signature kickass characters (albeit as reinterpreted through an "American manga" visual aesthetic).

There will be a lot going on, what with the promotional push for BEFORE WATCHMEN — for which Amanda is drawing and co-writing the SILK SPECTRE mini-series (with Darwyn Cooke as co-scribe) — and Jimmy being a part of the Video Game Characters Reborn! panel, hosted by ShiftyLook on Saturday. (There's talk that Jimmy will be making some sort of announcement at that panel, so make sure to attend for the scoop!)

Both Amanda and Jimmy will also be found in Artists Alley for signings, sketches and meet-and-greet ops with the fans, so stop on by!

Here's an excellent portrait of A.C., taken through a 35mm lens that I smashed in with the heavy end of a T-square during a moment of frustration in my Marvel Bullpen days. I took this to prove that the camera loves her, so I I think I can honestly say quod erat demonstrandum to that.
